Biography
Mr. Ibrahim Faisal, appointed Minister of Tourism for the Maldives in November 2023, brings diverse experience and leadership to the role. He concurrently serves as Co-chair of the Visitor Economic Council (VEC), leading efforts to diversify tourism offerings and attract investments to enhance the industry. Mr. Faisal is also a member of the Economic Council (EC), where he plays a key role in informed decision-making on broader economic matters, including investments across various sectors in the Maldives.
Mr. Faisal spent his formative years in his native Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll, where he received his primary education at the local public school. He then pursued advanced studies in business administration at Westminster International College, Malaysia. Upon completing his tertiary education, he embarked on his public service journey in 2004, serving as a constable officer in the Maldives Police Service.
Mr. Faisal’s dedication to public service continued in 2013 when he entered the political arena, appointed as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Following a distinguished two-year tenure, Mr. Faisal transitioned to the diplomatic realm, serving as Additional Secretary at the Maldivian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 2015 to 2018.
Now leading the captivating destination of The Maldives, Mr. Faisal stands out as a determined and highly motivated leader. He consistently approaches challenges with a proactive mindset, envisioning a future for Maldives tourism that extends beyond established boundaries, venturing into unexplored territories through ambitious diversification plans.
