YB Wong Hon Wai

YB Wong Hon Wai, born in Penang in 1973, graduated from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. In 2004, YB Wong Hon Wai continued his studies in law and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Malaya in the same year, and a Certificate of Practicing Lawyer in 2005. In addition, YB Wong Hon Wai also obtained a master’s degree in economics and management from the University Sains Malaysia in 2022.

From 1997 to 2006, YB Wong Hon Wai worked as a system engineer in a multinational company in Bayan Lepas, Penang. He then entered the legal field from 2007 to 2008 as a lawyer in the High Court of Malaya. Since 2008, YB Wong Hon Wai has been involved in the fields of public administration and politics. In the same year, he was elected as the Air Itam State Assemblyman and served as a local State Assemblyman until 2018.

From 2008 to 2013, YB Wong Hon Wai was also appointed as the Penang State Executive Councilor, in charge of the town and country planning, housing and art departments. YB Wong Hon Wai was also appointed as the political secretary to the Penang Chief Minister between 2014 and 2018. During the 2018 general election, YB Wong Hon Wai abandoned the state to attack the parlimen and successfully won the Penang Hill parliamentary constituency. Under the people’s trust, he served as the Members of Parliament for Penang Hill until the dissolution of Parliament in 2022.

YB Wong Hon Wai once again fought in the Penang state election in 2023 and won a landslide victory in Penang’s Paya Terubong constituency. He became the local State Assemblyman and was later appointed as the Penang State Executive Council, responsible for taking charge of Tourism and Creative Economy.
